At least two people were killed and 32 injured when an iron bridge collapsed at a tourist site in India's Maharashtra's Pune district on June 15. The bridge gave way as scores of visitors were crossing, plunging many into a swollen river following days of heavy rain.
Six people remain in critical condition, and search operations are ongoing, with several still feared swept away, according to local authorities.
Although weather conditions were calm at the time of the collapse, recent rainfall had increased the river’s flow. The site, popular with picnickers, was reportedly crowded when the collapse occurred.
