A tragic incident has shaken Safari World Bangkok, where a veteran zookeeper was mauled to death by lions in front of horrified visitors on September 10. Jian Rangkharasamee, 58, who had worked at the park for more than 30 years, was attacked in the lion enclosure during feeding time.
Wildlife officials said the attack likely involved six or seven lions. Attapol Charoenchansa, director general of the Department of National Parks, explained that “one of them was not in a good mood” and launched the assault, with others quickly following. The park has since been ordered to temporarily close while the incident is investigated.
The tragedy has raised concerns over safety procedures at the popular tourist attraction, where visitors can usually observe animals from the safety of their cars. Sadudee Punpugdee, wildlife protection director, confirmed that officials will review the park’s operations in light of the fatal attack.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time zoos or safari parks have witnessed such violent encounters.
