The shooting unfolded on June 29 near Canfield Mountain, just north of Coeur d’Alene, after fire crews arrived around 1:30 pm local time. Gunfire was reported shortly after.
According to sheriff’s officials, the suspect acted alone and was later found dead. Investigators say the attack appeared to be premeditated, with the fire intentionally set as part of the ambush.
