Owners of German shepherds or sheepdogs scored higher in extroversion. “If they’re outgoing, they tend to want an outgoing dog. They say, ‘Yeah, that sounds like me,'” said Dr. Workman.

Sporting dogs -

People who owned dogs such as labradors and cocker spaniels came out as more agreeable and conscientious in the survey.

Non-sporting dogs -

People who choose to own utility dogs such as English bulldogs, Shar-Peis, and ChowChows scored higher in conscientiousness and extroversion.

Toy dogs -

Owners of Chihuahuas and Yorkshire terriers, for instance, were more agreeable, more conscientious, and more open to new experiences.

Hound dogs -

People who own dogs such as greyhounds and beagles were more emotionally stable (i.e. calm and consistent).

Terriers -

Those who own dogs such as the Staffordshire bull terrier scored somewhere in the middle for every trait and none stood out.

Working dogs -

Owners of dogs such as schnauzers or Dobermans also didn't have any personality trait stand out in the survey.
