Disaster

On July 17, a Bangladeshi Air Force training jet crashed into a school in Dhaka, killing at least 27 people and injuring over 170. The F-7 BGI aircraft struck the Milestone School and College campus shortly after takeoff, causing a massive fire and prompting a government investigation.

The crash comes amid ongoing inquiries into the June 12 Air India disaster, in which a Boeing 787 en route to London Gatwick crashed just after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 241 passengers and crew. Preliminary cockpit audio suggests the captain may have cut fuel to the engines, though formal findings have yet to be released.

Even with modern technology and strict safety protocols, incidents such as these remind us that air disasters still occur, and they are often catastrophic. Click through to explore some of the deadliest and most shocking air disasters in history.
