Authorities have recovered the body of a 27-year-old man who drowned in Lake Lanier after jumping off a boat with a loosely fastened life jacket. Ramon Diaz-Soria disappeared beneath the surface on June 14 while out on a rental tri-toon boat with friends. Those close to him told investigators that Diaz-Soria could not swim.
Search efforts continued into the night and resumed at dawn, with officials deploying sonar equipment to scan the lake's depths. By the evening of June 18, divers located Diaz-Soria’s body about 60 feet (roughly 18 meters) underwater.
The tragedy marks the second drowning in Lake Lanier in just over a month. In May, police recovered a body believed to be that of Dustin Valencia, a 43-year-old father of five.
