On July 2, CNN reported that North Korea is set to deploy up to 30,000 additional troops to aid Russia in its war against Ukraine, according to a Ukrainian intelligence report. The forces could arrive in the coming months. This would follow the deployment of about 12,000 North Korean troops last November, who reportedly supported Russian operations in the Kursk region.

Satellite images reviewed by CNN also suggest Russia is preparing for the deployments. Vessels previously used to transport North Korean troops were spotted in Russian ports, and cargo plane flight paths showed active routes consistent with bringing soldiers into the country.

From Belarus to China and North Korea, these partnerships are driven by shared interests, economic ties, and political support, particularly in response to Western sanctions. Understanding these relationships is essential for grasping the complexities of contemporary international relations involving Russia.
