On May 13, Judge Michael V. Jesic, of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, ruled to resentence the Menendez brothers to life with the possibility of parole.
The judge’s decision was influenced by statements from family members who claimed the brothers had undergone a profound transformation in prison—through education, self-help programs, and the support of numerous correctional officers, who submitted letters on their behalf.
In 1989, Erik and Lyle Menendez shot and killed their parents in the family’s Beverly Hills home.
