Israel allowed around 100 trucks of food aid to enter the Gaza Strip on May 19, after pressure from allies and global outcry. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that friendly nations couldn’t bear the “images of mass famine.”
For over two and a half months, no food aid could enter the Gaza Strip, where, according to Antoine Renard, the World Food Programme director for the Palestinian territories, more than 14,000 children are experiencing severe food malnutrition. Renard also added that the latest move is a drop in the bucket given the severity of the situation.
