President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order this September 5 to rename the Department of Defense to the "Department of War," according to a White House official.
"We won World War 1, World War 2 – it was called the Department of War, and to me, that's really what it is," Trump said. "Defense is a part of that, but I have a feeling we're gonna be changing."
This change would mark the first major renaming of the department in over seven decades.
So far, Trump has signed a total of 198 executive orders, including pardons for those involved in the January 6 Capitol attack and the withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement. More recently, he issued orders to dismantle the Department of Education and eliminate what he describes as "anti-American" ideology from Smithsonian museums.
