A group of researchers at Wuhan University, in China, may have found a way to remove microplastics from our planet's oceans once and for all. And the solution involves a rather unlikely component: squid bones!
The researchers' work shows that by combining chitin, a key compound in squid bones, with cellulose from cotton, it is possible to create a sponge that pulls microplastics from polluted waters.
