On November 18, Amazon’s Zoox announced the launch of its robotaxi service in San Francisco, offering free rides in the city's major neighborhoods. The move comes in response to Waymo’s current lead in the self-driving car race, as Amazon hopes to challenge its Google-owned competitor.
Rides will be limited to users who signed up on a waiting list to ride in Zoox’s robotaxis. The San Francisco free rides initiative follows less than three months after Zoox launched its first service on the Las Vegas Strip. Unlike Waymo, Zoox doesn’t charge for its robotaxi rides.
