Two people were killed and several others injured in an attack outside a Manchester synagogue, police confirmed on October 2. Greater Manchester Police said a security guard was stabbed and four others were wounded when a car was driven into members of the public near Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Crumpsall. Officers later confirmed that two victims had died, while the suspected attacker was shot by armed police and is also believed to be dead.
The attack occurred during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, when many worshippers had gathered at the synagogue. Police said a “large number of people” were inside at the time.
Authorities added that the suspect’s condition could not immediately be confirmed due to “suspicious items on his person.” An investigation is ongoing.
