Denmark has, for the first time ever, called the United States a possible security risk in a new intelligence report—a sign of growing tension between Europe and the US.
The Danish Defense Intelligence Service says the US uses its economic power, such as threatening high tariffs, to pressure others and might even use military force against allies. The agency says this fits a larger trend: big countries are focusing more on their own interests and are increasingly willing to use force to get what they want.
The report also mentions that Russia’s military threat to NATO is growing, and this worries Denmark even more because the US can no longer be counted on with certainty to protect Europe’s security.
Denmark isn’t the only country that sees the United States as hostile. A Pew Research Center report from July 2025 looked at which countries view the US as their biggest threat and which see it as their strongest ally. Can you guess which nations consider this relationship to be favorable, and those which consider it to be dangerous?
