In late 1959, a film called 'Look Back in Anger' was released. The movie represented the emergence of a cultural movement in Great Britain that became known as kitchen sink realism, or kitchen sink drama. The term was used to describe a style of filmmaking that depicted the daily struggles of ordinary, everyday working-class people in urban settings.

At times shocking and controversial, kitchen sink drama brought to the stage and screen a new type of entertainment that wasn't afraid to address social issues that hitherto had been largely avoided by mainstream theater and cinema. 'Look Back in Anger' had a significant impact by giving voice to the post-war generation's disillusionment, frustration, and anger. Click through this gallery and look back at one of the most remarkable and revolutionary periods in British cinematic history.
