Twenty people were injured after a lightning strike hit a beach in South Carolina on June 24, local authorities confirmed. The incident occurred around 5 pm at Dominion Beach Park near Lake Murray Dam in Lexington County, where swimmers were in the water when a sudden storm hit.
Emergency crews responded to what was described as a “reported electrocution,” and found eight adults and 12 juveniles impacted by the lightning. Eighteen were treated at the scene. All the affected are expected to make a full recovery, officials said.
