Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki

Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted for nine minutes on October 15, this at around 1:30 am local time, sending ash up to 6.2 miles (10 km) into the sky.

Currently, there are no reports of damage or casualties, but authorities have warned residents and tourists on the island of Flores, where the volcano sits, to be ready for evacuation and alerted about the extreme danger of ash mudflows in case of heavy rain. The local airport, located 37 miles (60 km) from the volcano, has suspended operations.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki has been very active lately. It erupted in July 2025, disrupting operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. Previously, a massive eruption in November 2024 killed 10 people and damaged thousands of homes. For people living near volcanoes like this one, eruptions are a constant threat. On the other hand, many volcanoes remain quiet for long periods, some erupt occasionally, and others stay active for years.
