For the first time in two decades, the US passport has dropped out of the world’s top 10 most powerful passports list, according to the latest Henley Passport Index.

The US passport now sits in 12th place, tied with Malaysia, continuing a steady decline from seventh place last year and 10th place in July. Just 10 years ago, it held the top spot on the index.

The Henley Passport Index is the original and most authoritative ranking regarding the strengths of the world's passports and the number of destinations holders can go to without a prior visa. It analyzes 199 passports and 227 travel destinations. In this gallery, you'll find the countries that scored in the top 10 for 2025, ranked from least to most strong.
