While Christmas is celebrated around the world, not everyone celebrates—namely some Hollywood celebrities. There are plenty of famous faces who won't be celebrating this Christmas.
'Curb Your Enthusiasm' legend Larry David turns out to be even worse than the Grinch, as the 74-year-old writer and actor penned an essay for Air Mail on December 18 about why he hates the holidays.
In the piece titled, "A Very Larry David Christmas," David wrote that he was "filled with dread at the prospect of close social encounters with what seemed like hundreds of relatives" on Christmas, adding that he hates things that throw off his normal routine. "That's why I detest all holidays, but none as much as Christmas." He went on to disparage holiday movies, music, and the whole process of buying and receiving presents, along with the "barrage" of holiday greetings that he said "must be returned like unwanted 'I love you's.'"
David wrote that eventually people finally stopped inviting him to gatherings, as "over the years, my Scrooginess at these Christmas Day gatherings became so intolerable that in due course everyone realized how much better the day would be without my off-putting, nay, offensive presence."
But on his first Christmas Day alone he found a common Christmas tradition for Jewish Americans that he adopted for himself. "I noticed a crowd of people lined up on the street and saw that my local Chinese restaurant was open for business, with every Jew in the neighborhood inside," he said. "I didn't even particularly like the food there, but that night I went to town and ordered all the dishes from my childhood." He explained that eating Chinese food alone on Christmas has become his "cherished yearly ritual," adding, "And now on Christmas Eve I sleep like a baby, with nary a bathroom break."
