Dark history

After World War II, many Nazis found secret refuge in South America, where some governments turned a blind eye or even welcomed them. One of the eeriest hideouts was a remote Chilean compound called Colonia Dignidad, ironically named “Dignity Colony," founded in 1961 by cult leader Paul Schäfer. Followers lived under harsh control, isolated from their families and forced into hard labor.

Today, this hideout has transformed into Villa Baviera, a peaceful countryside retreat known for its charming German architecture, hearty European cuisine, and scenic foothills; a picturesque getaway with a haunting past.

Click through the gallery to uncover the chilling story behind Villa Baviera’s peaceful facade, where history’s darkest secrets linger just beneath the surface.
