CELEBRITY Loss

Just thinking about losing a child is an unbearable nightmare that no one should have to go through. Sadly, however, there are many people whose worst nightmare became a reality, as is the case of these stars who lost their kids–some at a very young age, others older.

Australian musician Nick Cave is mourning the loss of his son Jethro Lazenby, who died at 31 years old. The frontman of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds confirmed the sad news in a statement to NBC through his manager Brian Message, which read: "With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away. We would be grateful for family privacy at this time." No cause of death has been released.

Lazenby had been rising in the world of fashion, walking the runway for major fashion houses, and also landing some film roles. He'd also had several run-ins with law enforcement, serving jail time in 2018 after a series of violent assaults on his then-girlfriend, and going back to jail in 2022 after admitting to attacking his mother. Just days before his death, he had been released on bail from Melbourne Remand Centre after a judge ordered him to undergo substance abuse treatment, BBC reports. At the time, his lawyer said that Lazenby had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Cave's loss comes seven years after his other son Arthur, whom he shared with model Susie Bick, died at 15 years old after falling from a cliff in Brighton, England.
