The life of an athlete can be fast and furious. They typically start young and quickly prove themselves at a national, and even international, level. While sometimes this leads to fame and an impressive career, unfortunately not all athletes make it that far.
The mixed martial arts world mourns the loss of Anthony "Rumble" Johnson who died at age 38 of an unspecified illness. Bellator MMA, the fighting promotion with which Johnson most recently competed, confirmed his death on November 13: “The Bellator family is devastated by his untimely passing, and we send our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
During his 15-year MMA career, Johnson had an impressive 23 wins, 17 of which were by KO or TKO, and only six losses. Johnson fought twice for a UFC title, and lost both times to Daniel Cormier. Cormier tweeted in response to the news of Johnson's death, "For a guy who struck fear in so many peoples heart Anthony Johnson was a caring person. From random text to check ins during loss. What a person he was, Rumble will be missed. Sometimes life doesn’t seem fair."
