Demi Lovato says embracing her queer identity has given her the freedom “to live authentically.” In a recent interview with Paper magazine published on September 15, the Grammy nominee reflected on growing up in Texas and longing for spaces where she could feel safe to be herself.
Lovato, who identifies as pansexual, explained that queer clubs provide that sense of safety and community. “I love dancing, and I love doing that in queer spaces because it feels safe to me,” she said. The singer and actress added that being surrounded by people who live authentically inspires her to do the same.
Knowledge of what pansexuality is only started spreading in the general public over the last few years. LGBTQ+ advocacy organization GLAAD defines pansexuality as "being attracted to all gender identities, or attracted to people regardless of gender." It's different from bisexuality, which is defined as being attracted to more than one gender.
Many other celebrities have also publicly embraced pansexuality, whether explicitly or through their actions, celebrating it proudly. Click through to see the stars who most closely identify with pansexuality.
