Tatiana Schlossberg, a journalist and the granddaughter of former President John F. Kennedy, opened up about her aggressive cancer diagnosis in an essay in The New Yorker on November 22. Acute myeloid leukemia was discovered shortly after giving birth to her daughter in May 2024. Tragically, after several treatments, doctors have given the 35-year-old "less than a year to live."

Though the news might seem shocking to the general public, it would not surprise oncologists, who have been warning about early-onset cancer, i.e. cancer that appears in anybody under the age of 50.

A recent study published in the journal BMJ Oncology has identified an alarming global trend in cancer cases in young people. And the truly worrying aspect about this study is that experts have yet to discover a definitive reason why.
