Imagine feeling like a stranger in your own body, as if you woke up and didn’t recognize the preferences or thoughts in your own mind. This challenging scenario isn’t simply the plotline for a movie—it’s an unfortunate and jarring reality for some. Dissociative identity disorder (DID), known previously as multiple personality disorder, is an extremely complex mental health condition. People with DID often disassociate, or detach from memories, feelings, thoughts and more, as a way to cope with trauma.
