The Legionnaires’ outbreak in Harlem, New York, has worsened, leaving three people dead out of at least 67 reported cases, officials say. The outbreak, first reported during the last week of July, has seen a sharp rise in cases.

The New York City Health Department advised that "people who have been in the affected area since late July with flu-like symptoms, fever, cough, or difficulty breathing should seek immediate medical attention."

Legionnaires’ disease is caused by the Legionella bacteria and tends to cause pneumonia-like symptoms. In this gallery, you'll get to know all about it, from causes to symptoms and treatment. Click on for more.
