10% rule - Save 10% of your monthly income. At least that's what the financial advisers say. It may seem difficult, but if you think 10% is a bit too much for you, you can start with a lower amount. Aim for 1% to 5% a month and try to increase the amount when possible. The easiest way is to have an automatic transfer set up, by having a percentage of your income transferred directly into a savings account.

Emergency fund - Always try to have an emergency stash in case of an emergency. It is important to avoid getting into debt when you are not able to pay it without having to withdraw money from your emergency fund.

Reduce your fixed expenditure - Try to cut back on any extras you currently spend money on. For instance, if you do not go to the gym every month, or if you do not use the internet on your cell phone, there is no need to pay for these things.
