Crane drops tank with poisonous gas in Jordan's Aqaba port, at least 12 dead, 250 injured

A toxic gas leak in the Red Sea port of Aqaba in Jordan has claimed the lives of at least 12 people and injured over 250. The explosion occurred on June 27 when a crane dropped a tank filled with 25 tonnes of chlorine gas as it was being transferred to a ship to be transported. Videos show a poisonous yellow cloud of gas expanding outward as people ran away. A local health official urged people to stay inside and close windows and doors, though the nearest residential area is 25 km away.
