When you're a member of the British royal family, dealing with the paparazzi is just another royal chore! That is, until things go too far. For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, this has certainly played a big role in their stepping down from royal duties. But the media frenzy is far from over.
Most recently, Prince Harry has been involved in a libel lawsuit against a UK tabloid called the Mail on Sunday, owned by Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL). The newspaper published an article in February claiming that Harry had tried to keep legal issues he was having with the British Home Office a secret. They suggested that the Prince had lied and behaved improperly, attempting to manipulate and confuse public opinion. The Duke of Sussex denies the claims and decided to take the publication to court.
It's true that Prince Harry is currently involved in legal proceedings with the British Home Office. He is appealing their decision to make police protection unavailable to him and his family when he visits the UK, now that he is no longer an active member of the royal family. While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to remove themselves from royal life and move to the US, he would still like to be able to visit the UK safely, which he feels he cannot do without cooperation from the British police. Harry offered to pay for the police's protection, but his request was still denied. He decided to seek a judicial review to see if a resolution is possible.
On July 8, the High Court ruled that the Mail on Sunday's claims that Prince Harry had "lied" or tried to "cynically" manipulate the public was false. This is a big win for Harry, but the case isn't over yet. Further hearings will be required to determine whether his accusations of libel against the newspaper hold true.
