On June 30, President Donald Trump launched a new line of fragrances, now available for purchase. The collection features ‘Fight Fight Fight’ and ‘Victory 47’ colognes for men, along with matching perfumes for women.
Described as a “rallying cry in a bottle,” these luxury, limited-edition scents are designed to reflect themes of resilience, victory, power, and confidence. The Victory 47 editions are priced at US$249 per bottle and come in packaging that showcases the president’s likeness and symbolic imagery such as a raised fist and a golden statue. The release was confirmed in an official product announcement and promoted by President Trump on his Truth Social platform.
While this new launch highlights modern branding and marketing, the art of perfume has a rich history dating back thousands of years. Perfume was first used by the ancient Egyptians as part of their religious rituals. The Greeks and the Romans refined its use, applying perfumed oils to the skin for either cosmetic or medicinal use. But it was within the Islamic world that perfume making, or perfumery, became commonplace. By the 16th century, Western Europe too was beginning to smell good. Today, the global perfume market is worth a staggering US$55.53 billion. So, why is wearing an agreeable scent so popular?
