The natural association is to link the feminine with the good because it represents kindness, warmth, and compassion. By deduction, masculine energy is then often associated with the bad. This is false. Both are relevant in our daily lives.

One without the other is incomplete. When fostering too much masculine energy, people may begin to feel overworked, underappreciated, and unloved.

Likewise, operating with too much feminine energy can cause problems for people. When this happens, people can be left feeling unsupported, unfocused, scattered, and unstable.

A balance of both is needed in our lives as feminine energy represents creativity and masculine energy represents logic and goal orientation. For instance, when designing a kitchen, our feminine energy is at work to imagine what it will look like, and our masculine energy drives us to build it.

We are not static beings, and nobody should expect to find a perfect balance. If they do, they shouldn’t expect to have it for very long. However, an awareness of the balance of these energies is the initial goal.

With awareness of our own balance of energy and how we’re operating, we can take steps to find a better balance so that we feel better, perform better, and are nicer to be around.

Most of us embody our masculine energy too much of the time for the simple reason that modern life expects us and requires us to. Work takes up most of our days, and a lot of careers require us to embody traits associated with masculine energy.

One of the origins of the idea comes from Hindu mythology, which talks about Ardhnarishwar. The divine being embodied half masculine and half feminine energy, with a flower in one hand and a weapon in the other. But it is also represented in Daoism with the yin (feminine) and yang (masculine).

To find a balance between these energies, we must first understand the traits associated with each of them.

The embodiment of feminine energy will see characteristics such as care for others, an expression of willingness to be led or pursued, and being expressive and non-judgmental.

Somebody embodying their feminine energy will collaborate. They may also be more trusting, vulnerable, open, and empathetic.

Signs of an imbalance may cause people to overgive, they may become carried away by their own emotions, may feel unworthy or doubt themselves, and may become dogmatic.

To work on this, people can practice physical activities like yoga, running, and dancing.

Stopping trying to please everyone is a good way of working to rebalance. Being selfish now and again isn’t a bad thing. Setting up boundaries in your relationships where you have time to be yourself and do your own thing may also be helpful.

Are there stereotypes guiding the type of energy that we embody to the point that it’s harming our well-being? Can we let go of them? Do we experience shame or fear when representing one of the two energies?

Let this serve as a brief introduction to the complex blend of masculine and feminine energies that we all embody, completely separate from our physical characteristics. These energies are both present, they are dynamic in our day-to-day lives, and we should attempt to find a balance that works for us. We can do this in many ways, but we must first understand ourselves and if an imbalance between masculine and feminine energy may be causing problems in our lives.
