Top beauty trends for 2022
What is "slugging" and why are people slathering their faces in petroleum jelly?
©
Shutterstock

The beauty industry is evolving in an unprecedented way. In 2022, we'll see it become increasingly transparent, natural, and overall more efficient. Science developments and new technology also play a big part in the direction the beauty industry is heading towards, as well as innovative treatments based on genetics and those aided by robotics, which will also be more present during the year.
Of course, TikTok trends will also continue to shake up the beauty industry, the latest focus of which is Vaseline. That's right, the old petroleum jelly is making its comeback in a strange new trend called "slugging." It involves slathering your face with the gelatinous oil-sludge byproduct before going to bed at night so that when you wake up and remove it, your skin supposedly looks shiny, Bloomberg reports. Though petroleum jelly went out of style in the skincare world for a little while, it seems to be back with a vengeance.
