The 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup cricket tournament is currently taking place, co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States. The US's role is unprecedented given that they first took part in the biennial competition in 2019, and only created their own Major League Cricket league in 2023. However, the underdogs have given a strong performance so far! They beat Canada by seven wickets in their first game of the T20, and went on to win against heavyweight Pakistan, one of the most experienced and successful teams in the game, on June 6.

The game was pushed into super over, a nail-biting tiebreaker consisting of six balls. Team USA's Aaron Jones gave a blinding performance as Pakistan failed to defend. "It's a big achievement, beating Pakistan while playing for the first time (against them)," U.S. captain Monank Patel said. Pakistan aren't out of the game just yet, however, but their upcoming match against India will be an interesting one. The US will also come up against India in their next match on June 12.

America is not known for its cricketing prowess, however. Indeed, its best-known bat-and-ball game is baseball. But did you know that cricket was once one of the most popular sports in the US? And get this, the "gentleman's game" that originated in England in the 1700s is currently enjoying a renaissance. But the question is, can cricket once again crack America?

Click through, take to the field, and run through this brief history of cricket and its association with baseball.
