A 10-year-old boy survived the July 19 sinking of a tourist boat in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay by sheltering in an air pocket inside the overturned vessel. He had been traveling with his family when the boat capsized during a sudden storm. Rescuers found him in shock but physically unharmed, and he was taken to a nearby hospital.
At least 35 people were confirmed dead in the accident, and four others remain missing, according to Vietnamese state media.
