How about this for a trip of a lifetime? Airbnb has announced a travel package that takes in 18 countries on six continents in 80 days. If that itinerary sounds familiar, it's because Airbnb has drawn inspiration from the classic Jules Verne novel 'Around the World in Eighty Days' and the fictional Phileas Fogg's attempt to circumnavigate the world in 80 days in a hot-air balloon.
But is it really possible to circle the globe in a little over 11 weeks? Airbnb thinks so, and is offering some lucky people the opportunity to do just that with an amazing new trip that'll cost just US$5,000 ( €4,468) per person.
Launched to coincide with its new Adventures initiative, which will set up travelers with exclusive and "daring" two-to-10-day trips with hosts in destinations all across the globe, Airbnb has designed a travel itinerary that commences with stays in England, Romania, and Uzbekistan, then countries through the Middle East to parts of Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and both South and North America before making a stop in Iceland and finishing back in England.
The fee covers accommodation, transfers, and transportation between all the destinations. There's even the possibility of a hot-air balloon flight! Those lucky enough to secure a place will have to meet certain meal and other incidental expenses along the way, plus a round-trip ticket to London, the departure city.
And here's the thing. This is considered a "social impact experience" and to that end, 100% of revenue generated will be donated to the Malala Fund, the non-profit organization founded by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai, which works to give every girl 12 years and older a free, safe, and quality education.
