Madonna, 67, revealed on Jay Shetty’s ‘On Purpose’ podcast that a near-death experience in 2023 sparked a spiritual awakening. A severe bacterial infection required her to be put into a medically induced coma. She recalled seeing a vision of her late mother during the coma, who asked if she wanted to “come with” her. Madonna declined, but the experience led her to reconciliation and emotional healing with her estranged brother, Christopher, before his death in 2024. She described their rift as deeply painful but found peace in forgiving him. The experience also inspired her upcoming tribute song, ‘Fragile.’
A coma can be described as a "state of prolonged unconsciousness" in which a person cannot be awakened, does not respond to stimuli, and cannot initiate voluntary movements. There are a number of reasons that a person can slip into a coma, and sometimes it is induced for medical reasons.
