Did you know an average person is estimated to contain approximately 30 trillion human cells, and that there are 200 different cell types in the human body? These figures reflect the fact that humans are multicellular, complex organisms. Each cell has a unique shape, size, and structure and undertakes a "specialized" function. All, however, work together to keep the human body running efficiently.
Cells are the fundamental building blocks of all living things. Cells form tissues, which combine and create specific organs. Since every tissue has its own function that contributes to the multifunctionality of an organ, every type of cell is equally important. But certain human cells are highly significant because they possess unique functional capabilities and serve as master regulators for development.
In this gallery, we highlight 15 different cell types, several of which are absolutely essential for human life. But what are they? To find out, click on to continue reading.
