There are undoubtedly many positive things to say about avocados. The peculiar little fruits can have enormous beneficial components such as fibre, antioxidants, and heart-healthy fatty acids, to name just a few pluses.
However, much like other nutritional problems, it boils down to the issue of portion sizing. Please try to contain your shock.
The California Avocado Commission announced that the actual portion size for an avocado is 1/3. This may not sound like much, but the previously serving size set by the Food and Drug Administration was a mere 1/5 of an avocado.
According to Body and Soul, it's been recommended by numerous nutritionists to eat no more than half an avocado a day if you are trying to lose weight. Unless you are extremely active or are trying to gain weight, eating an entire avocado in one day may be detrimental to weight loss.
The moral of the story is to enjoy your guacamole, but less is more.
