LeBron James is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers to pursue the next chapter of his career elsewhere, James' agent Rich Paul told ESPN on June 30.
"LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history," Jeanie Buss, the Lakers' governor, said in a statement the same day, adding, "We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off. He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family."
James then responded that it was "an honor" to play for the team and added, "while trying to continuing [sic] the greatness & legacies that came before me! Hope I made a few proud during my stint."
The NBA legend's tenure recently wrapped up his 23rd season, which was also his eighth with the Lakers. With 23 seasons, James holds the record for most seasons played in NBA history, and he is now set to extend that record with his 24th campaign.
