Ryanair employees will see their bonus for detecting non-compliant cabin baggage during embarking doubled. The incentive will rise from US$1.75 to US$3 per bag detected. Moreover, the previous US$90 monthly bonus cap will be lifted, encouraging staff to catch as many oversized bags as possible.
The move was announced on August 27 by Ryanair CEO and founder Michael O’Leary, who said he makes “no apology” for the policy. It will come into effect in November 2025.
Ryanair, long known for its strict limitations on luggage size, currently charges passengers a US$100-fine for traveling with non-compliant bags. The change comes amid ongoing discussions in the European Parliament about whether airlines should be required to allow passengers to bring at least two items into the cabin free of charge.
