The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of more than 13,000 Daikin air conditioners and heat pumps due to a potential safety issue.
The CPSC said that the units carry a "risk of serious injury from fire and burns" as "the heating element can remain energized during a ground fault, despite being turned off."
While Daikin Comfort Technologies has received a report of plastic from one recalled unit melting, no injuries have been linked to the issue. The CPSC said the climate-control units are commonly used in hotels, apartment complexes, and commercial buildings.
Consumers can check if their unit has been recalled by finding the model number on the white sticker located on the front edge of the base pan.
