Hunger

Chaos erupted on May 27 at a Gaza aid site run by a US-backed group as thousands of Palestinians rushed for food. Israeli troops fired warning shots, and US contractors briefly pulled back.

An 11-week Israeli blockade has pushed Gaza’s two million residents toward famine, with limited humanitarian aid only resuming last week. Videos showed crowds overwhelming fences and barriers at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s Tel al-Sultan distribution center.

Despite the brutality of leaving an entire population starving, Israel's actions have had many precursors and contemporaries. Indeed, the war strategy of intentionally eliminating basic survival needs remains all too common. Over 783 million people around the world face hunger, and, of those, nearly 90% live in conflict zones. Is this a coincidence? Not according to human rights experts.
